From the child who demonstrated 2021 was not a fluke to the man who appears to have no flaws in the car, the public appears to have voted on the top 5.Before the Belgian Grand Prix, which will be broadcast live this weekend, the top 5 players are listed here with justifications.
    1. Max Verstappen, Red Bull
The Dutchman came into this season with the huge legion of Hamilton fans calling him an unworthy world champion, but he’s kept his head down, avoided the distractions and has built a campaign around supreme consistency and speed. Eight wins from the first 13 races has been brilliant in itself, but the manner in which Max has delivered some of those wins by calmly picking his moments to overtake and seize opportunities is a clear indication of a driver who has added title-battling experience to the already prodigious amount of god-given talent. There doesn’t seem to be any weakness right now, which is concerning for the opponents, both now and in the future.
    2.u00a0Charles Leclerc, Ferrari
Leclerc would be 28 points ahead of Max instead of 80 points behind him if you take into account the 32 points he lost due to driver error (Imola and France), the strategic mistakes (Monaco, Silverstone, and Budapest), which likely cost another 36 points, and the reliability failures (Baku and Spain). However, the world championship isn’t decided on hypotheticals, which is unfortunate for him and the team. As a result, they have a mountain to climb and must wait for bad luck to fall on the opponents in order to put themselves back in the running. In races like Austria, the tables were flipped, and Leclerc performed a masterclass in race management to claim the victory. On far too many Sundays, the Red Bull has appeared to be the faster car. In the sprint to Abu Dhabi, he needs more of those.
    3. George Russel, Mercedes
The young Brit has had a fantastic start to his career at Mercedes, matching Lewis thus far 6-6 with a qualifying average difference of just 0.069.That’s really outstanding for a new team member competing against the all-time best qualifier based on statistics. The fastest lap of the season thus far was likely the pole position run in Budapest. The team has praised George’s strategy of logically solving the W13’s issues while also being daring enough to bet on set ups. There is no question that Russell is prepared to deliver victories if Mercedes has a car that is ready to start competing for them frequently. His greatest obstacle is still the man across from the pit garage, though.
    4. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes
For Lewis, the beginning of the season has been oddly quiet. In the first few races, he was obviously very unhappy with the car and suffered more than George Russell, but once we arrived in Barcelona and the team started to find some speed, Lewis has also stepped things up a level.Although Lewis and George had the same qualifying score, Lewis had won the previous five races in a row.u00a0Even if he currently trails George by 12 points in the standings, those awful weekends in Imola and Saudi Arabia seem like a lifetime ago. It will be exciting to watch this interteam duel!
    5.u00a0Lando Norris, McLaren
Despite a huge change in the rules, Lando has emerged as the undisputed team leader at McLaren, posting an 11-2 qualifying record and Daniel Ricciardo an average margin of 0.338 seconds. This contentious struggle to sign Oscar Piastri as a substitute for 2023 has likely been sparked by the fact that he has exactly four times as many points as his teammate. The orange cars had a rough start to the season with a variety of braking troubles, but after they overcame that hurdle in the first two races, Lando has finished in the top six four times. He is frequently the front-runner to finish seventh and ahead of the Alpines in their competition for midfield honours as Mercedes quickens their speed. A good start demonstrating that last season wasn’t an anomaly.
