In a recent announcement by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman and Thai batter Naruemol Chaiwai have been named as the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for April 2021, respectively.
Zaman played a key role in Pakistan’s successful ODI series against South Africa, scoring a magnificent century in the second match, which helped his team secure a crucial win. He also scored a half-century in the third match, finishing the series as the top scorer with 302 runs at an average of 100.66.
Chaiwai, on the other hand, was instrumental in Thailand’s historic win over Zimbabwe in the second ODI of the three-match series. She scored an unbeaten 65 in the match, which helped her team chase down a target of 255 with ease. Chaiwai also scored a half-century in the first ODI of the series, finishing the series as the top scorer with 137 runs at an average of 68.50.
Speaking about his award, Zaman said, I am delighted to receive this award. It’s always an honor to represent Pakistan and to contribute to the team’s success. I would like to thank my teammates and the coaching staff for their support, and I look forward to continuing to perform well for Pakistan.
Chaiwai, too, expressed her delight at being named the Women’s Player of the Month. She said, It’s a great feeling to receive this award. Our win over Zimbabwe was a special moment for Thai cricket, and I am happy to have played a part in it. I would like to thank my teammates and the coaching staff for their support, and I hope to continue to perform well for Thailand.
The ICC Players of the Month award was introduced last year to recognize the best performances by male and female players across all formats of international cricket. The winners are selected by a panel of experts, including former players, journalists, and broadcasters.
