Samson’s century came in just 47 balls, including seven fours and ten sixes, helping India post a formidable total of 202/8 in 20 overs. His aggressive approach and intent to capitalize on every ball have been key to his success. Reflecting on his innings, Samson said, “I trust my shot-making ability and approach each ball with an attacking mindset, especially in T20Is.”
The support from his captain, Suryakumar Yadav, and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been instrumental in Samson’s recent form. Samson added, “When you have a supporting captain like Surya and Gautam Bhai, they all support you during failures. The communication you get during failures is important. I got a lot of tips from Gautam Bhai and Surya to work on. They would say, your play against spin needs improvement. Get the spinners from Kerala and play on rough wickets. So if you have the Indian captain on call telling you what to work on, you have the confidence from the skipper that he wants you to do well. So all those small things play a huge role.”
Samson’s journey to this milestone has been a long one, with his first T20I century coming against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on October 12, 2024. His consistent performances have now placed him in an elite group of Indian batters with multiple T20I centuries, alongside Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul
