According to Reuters, on Wednesday, the civil aviation regulator’s website indicated that the US Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) system that alerts pilots and other flight personnel about hazards or any changes to airport facility services and pertinent procedures was not processing updated information.
The FAA declared that its NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) system had failed in an alert. The website indicated that there was no exact estimate for when it will return, although NOTAMs issued prior to the outage could still be seen.
At 5:31 a.m. ET on Wednesday, there were over 400 flights into, into, or out of the United States that were delayed. If the outage played a role was not immediately apparent. According to the website, technicians are now trying to restore the system. Further commentary from the FAA was not immediately available.
A NOTAM is a message that contains information that is crucial to those involved in flight operations but is not known far enough in advance to be made public in any other way. All planes in the US were stopped as a result of the incident, according to NBC News, which cited a source. What do you think of the system failure?Comment below.
