Aussies are known to not have too many nice words for the Indian side too often. However, everyone was left flummoxed when former Australian captain and legendary batsman Ricky Ponting hailed Suryakumar Yadav’s performance and suggested the Indian team to have Suryakumar bat at No. 4.Yadav’s batting position in T20 is unquestionable. However, during the recently held T20I series against WI, the India skipper Rohit Sharma asked Surya to open alongside him. The latter did prove his mettle by scoring a wondeful knock against England. However, the former Australian batsman and Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has still suggested that the Indian team should consider Suryakumar Yadav bat at No. 4.
For Yadav, the best position is either one, two or four, I think he can open, but I think heu2019s probably, you know, if you could probably just keep him away from the new ball, let him control the middle part of the game outside the Powerplay, through in the middle, and if heu2019s in at the end, you know what can happen. I think in the top four is, well, actually Iu2019ll go out on a limb: I donu2019t wish for him to open. I think four is his best spot,u201d Ponting said. Ponting also compared the young and energetic Indian batsmen with South African maverick AB de Villiers. Ponting said, u201cSurya (Yadav) scores 360 degrees around the ground, a bit like an AB de Villiers did when he was in his actual prime. The lap shots, the late cuts, you know, the ramps over the keeperu2019s head. He can hit down the ground.u201d
