Just one month had passed since Kale, a Thane, Maharashtra native, enlisted in the UN as a security service coordinator and was stationed in Gaza. Following his passing, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a new “urgent appeal” calling for the immediate cessation of hostilities and the release of all prisoners.
He said that the crisis in Gaza was still having a severe negative impact on aid workers as well as civilians. Farhan Haq, the Secretary-General’s Deputy Spokesman, made the admirable decision to apologise and offer his sympathies to the Indian government and people for the unfortunate event.

The Indian government’s tardy response was the one that stood out the most. The nation’s Permanent Mission to the UN expressed sympathy to Kale’s family in a statement on Tuesday, but the Ministry of External Affairs did not express its condolences until Wednesday, and even then, it was not in a very forceful manner.
Despite reports that showed Kale’s automobile had a UN flag on it and that the Israeli authorities were aware of its movement, India diplomatically refrained from demanding that Israel be held responsible.Human Rights Watch published a report following Kale’s passing in which it was said that, despite the fact that the aid workers had given the Israeli government their coordinates, Israeli forces had launched at least eight strikes on aid worker convoys and properties since October.

These are unacceptable mistakes that ought to be strongly denounced and looked into in great detail. India should put pressure on an unrepentant, marauding Israel while also looking over geopolitical concerns and supporting the work of a fact-finding panel established by the UN to look into the Kale case.
