Nitish’s remark crossed the line into obscenity when she continued to explain how women’s education had caused the fertility rate to fall from 4.3 to 2.9: The husband’s acts led to more births. But as women become more educated, they are able to control him, which is why the numbers are declining.

The fact that even an educated political figure like Nitish Kumar should think like this is much more concerning. All the knowledge gained from his many years in the public eye as a Union Minister and Chief Minister appears insignificant when compared to the sense of dominance that permeates his masculine mind with regard to women.

In actuality, a lot of Indian guys have regressive mentalities. After a kerfuffle over the issue from women’s rights groups and his political competitors, the CM quickly withdrew his comments and apologised for betraying his gender insensitivity.
The accusation of misogyny, however, is hard to refute. Nitish’s political reputation has taken a hit as a result, with even his former ally PM Modi and other BJP officials condemning him for lowering himself to such an extent. The underlying query is whether or not Indian politicians’ views on women would truly shift drastically as a result of this uproar.
