Pandya has spent a significant amount of time working on his fitness over the last 18 months after recurring injuries prevented him from bowling. He is now regularly bowling for India, providing much-needed balance to the team.
It has a lot to do with helping myself get back to basics and approaching everything positively. As a result, I have found peace in my life by always looking on the bright side. I know I’ll have good and bad days, but my positivity stems from the hard work I put in, which gives me the self-belief and confidence to give it my all. And with my family’s unwavering support, I feel a sense of complete focus and positivity all around me, he told RISE Worldwide.
Pandya has had a fantastic year since regaining full fitness. He led the Gujarat Titans to victory in their inaugural IPL season and has since been India’s second-highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals, in addition to producing match-winning spells. According to the allrounder, he has had a lot of time to focus on himself and reflect on parts of his journey that he had previously forgotten. While Pandya has always worked extra hard to get in shape, he credits his family with allowing him to take the next step in the last year or so.
The difference this time was that my family was very supportive of me being myself. Most importantly, give me some space to figure out what I want for myself, he said. The credit goes to Natasha, Agastya, Krunal – everyone kind of allowed me to keep my routine and made sure [that] Hardik right now should focus on himself and keep himself as a priority.
And as a result of that, I was able to understand a lot of things that I had kind of forgotten over the years while playing because there are certain things that you don’t write down, it just happens, he continued.
