Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic was in Lusail Stadium to witness Argentina’s World Cup victory led by Lionel Messi. The 35-year-old Serbian was blown away by the ups and downs of the nail-biting final, in which France came from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game 2-2 by the 81st minute and then the game went into extra time.
Messi scored in the 108th minute of extra time to make the score 3-2. Argentina appeared to be on its way to victory, but France’s Kylian Mbappe completed his hat trick in the match by converting a penalty in the 118th minute to force a penalty shootout.
The tennis star also expressed his admiration for Messi and praised him for remaining humble despite his success.
Of course, as a sports fan, as a football fan, I admire and respect Messi. I believe the majority of the world is pleased with his accomplishments and what he has accomplished. Success had no effect on him because he was humble and down to earth. All these years serve as a great example to all the children who look up to him and want to be like him, Djokovic said.
Messi was named World Cup 2022’s best all-around performer and received the Golden Ball for his seven goals and three assists. He had thus become the first player to win two Golden Ball awards, having previously won one in 2014.
