Former India batter Ajay Jadeja stated that it is difficult to pinpoint a specific time during Australia’s innings when the hosts lost the game. I can’t think of a time when India had a chance, unless Axar Patel was bowling.
He didn’t bowl for very long, either. Australia had no problems with the exception of those overs. They didn’t even have to take any chances, he said.
For much of the chase, Australia was on track, with Cameron Green’s 30-ball 61 helping them dominate the first 10 overs. Umesh Yadav and Axar then put a temporary halt to the flow of runs by taking a few quick wickets, but Matthew Wade came in and effectively ended India’s chances.
India stuck to their plans after taking those wickets, and it just didn’t work. It’s difficult to pinpoint where we went wrong because we went wrong throughout the innings. There is no point at which I can say that something could have been done differently, Jadeja explained.
At first, I was going to blame it on bowling Axar Patel because the ball was seaming, but he ended up with the best figures. He seemed to be engaged in a different game than the others. Chahal has had a couple of games where things did not go his way.
We sympathize with Rohit Sharma; he performed admirably, but Australia had an answer for everything.
