Kangana, known for her outspoken nature, shared harrowing insights about the time she entered the industry. She mentioned that it was common knowledge that new heroines had to seek the favor of underworld figures, notably Dawood Ibrahim. “Jab film industry mein nayi heroine ayi hai to jao Dawood ko salam karke aao,” she said, implying that actresses were expected to pay respects to Dawood. She further elaborated, “Ab hum 80s mein paeda hue hai, sab actors ki photos apko Dawood ke samne milti hai aur ye bhi khule mein pata chalta hai ki don ko agar koi ladki pasand ayi to usko leke jate hai,” suggesting that if Dawood liked a girl, she would be taken away.

Ranaut also referred to specific cases, mentioning Monica Bedi among others, without diving into further details. She emphasized how the underworld’s presence was an open secret and how it significantly affected the lives and careers of many actresses.

Reflecting on her personal experience, Kangana described the fears and concerns of her family when she decided to join the film industry in the early 2000s. “Imagine, what our parents would have thought. We were born in the 80s and wanted to be in the movies in the 2000s. With all this happening in the film industry, imagine what our parents would have thought. This was the situation in my house. They told me, we will commit suicide if you joined the film industry,” she revealed, underlining the stigma and danger associated with the film industry at that time.

Kangana’s revelations have once again sparked discussions about the dark underbelly of Bollywood and the changes it has undergone over the years. Today, the industry boasts of stronger protective measures for women, with many advocating for a safer and more respectful work environment. However, Kangana’s account serves as a stark reminder of the struggles and exploitation faced by actresses in the past.

Currently, Kangana Ranaut is actively involved in politics, contesting the Lok Sabha 2024 elections from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. She is running against Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh, aiming to represent her constituency with the same fervor she brings to her acting and activism.

As the industry continues to evolve, voices like Kangana’s are crucial in highlighting past injustices and ensuring that the new generation of actors enters a safer and more equitable environment.
