This news obviously came as a shocker even though the government hadnu2019t confirmed this yet. Well, the government came for clarification and said u201cNo we are not banning Chinese phones cheaper than Rs. 12,000u201d, while this is our creative liberty of interpreting what the government said, although the official statement was u201cNo plan to ban Chinese phones cheaper than Rs.12,000.u201dThe icing on top, the government has in fact asked the phone manufacturers to increase the exports from India. The clarification has left many puzzled, banning Chinese phone sub-Rs. 12,000 seemed logical because of the Vivo money laundering case and Indiau2019s focus on promoting Indian brands, but the government had a logical angle to this. Although the companies operating in India are from China, the people involved in the mobile phone ecosystem are actually working-class Indians, and getting rid of the foreign brands will mean many Indians’ livelihoods would be in jeopardy. It was further clarified that the Chinese brands were asked to be very transparent along with the export demands, ud83euded7Although India has taken a liberal stand from not banning the Chinese brands, they see the importance of building up Indian brands in the electronics ecosystem as they will play a crucial role in Indiau2019s path out of dependency, It is also assured that if the government sees any overcrowding in the market which is running the Indian businesses out, there would be certain steps taken to safeguard the Indian businesses.
