It’s the batting order that has people guessing. Indian captain Rohit Sharma chose to keep his cards close to his chest when speaking to the media on the eve of the match.
Aakash Chopra not only shed light on Team India’s old philosophy, but also explained why the management is likely to abandon their current philosophy for the Nagpur Test.
The Indian team is in a difficult situation as a result of Shreyas Iyer’s injury. And, of course, there’s no Rishabh Pant either. The way the Indian team has reacted so far to any injury or absence of a key player at some point is to vacate that spot as soon as the original occupant of the spot becomes available, Aakash Chopra told MensXP in an exclusive interview.
According to that theory, KL Rahul would open. Number five has been vacated, but it is not KL Rahul’s problem, and whoever is available at that position should play, he added.
The reason Team India is likely to abandon its old philosophy in Nagpur and include both KL Rahul and Shubman Gill in the batting lineup is that they do not want to feature two debutants in the same batting order.
To accommodate both of the aforementioned batters, the management may ask KL Rahul to bat in the middle, as he does in the 50-over format, and hand over the opening slot to Shubman Gill, who is in good form.
However, could Shubman Gill bat at five? That’s not going to happen, in my opinion. So, in my opinion, and this has happened quite a few times with KL Rahul, who is very versatile, can you now go down the order? Can you start keeping now, or can you do this or that?

It’s in his name, whether it’s Dravid or KL we tend to make too many demands from players named Rahul. In all likelihood, Shubman will bat first, with Rohit and KL Rahul batting at number five, said Chopra, who hosts the popular JioCinema cricket show AakashVani.
I’m not sure the team will be okay with Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) making his debut at five and KS Bharat also making his debut. I’m not sure they’ll be thrilled with the idea of two debutants at Nos. 5 and No. 6, he explained.
Given Shubman Gill’s hot form, fans wouldn’t mind seeing him bat alongside skipper Rohit at the top of the order. In fact, they would want him to seize the opportunity and claim the vacant position.
