    Concerning the security of Indian diplomats in the Maple Country, Verma has called on Canada to tackle the fundamental issue of containing proponents of Khalistan. It is commendable that in the midst of the impasse, New Delhi has made it clear that it intends to reduce tensions by removing restrictions on Canadian visas.

    In response to the India-Canada dispute, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated on Saturday that diplomacy may be used, but he quickly added that sovereignty and sensitivity could not be a one-way path. Even while the US and the UK, two of Canada’s friends, have asked India to participate in the Nijjar investigation on several occasions, they have been hesitant to pressure Ottawa to back up its claims.
    It is entirely Canada’s responsibility to engage India in an impartial, open, and cost-free inquiry in order to prevent shady conjecture. Smokescreen building will only exacerbate bilateral relations. Canada must also make sure that the security of Indian diplomats is never compromised.
