Krishan Bahadur Pathak, a young goalkeeper, performed admirably in front of the bar by making some excellent saves, including those from penalty corners. India was always a difficult opponent for Spain, but the home team dictated the terms to the Europeans, who won two of the four Pro League matches they played last year and lost one.
The Indians won a lot of balls from their opponents because they were quick on the attack and the counterattack. In addition to the three penalty corners, Spain missed a few opportunities.
In the first few minutes, Spain dominated the midfield battle without scoring. After getting a handle on their opponents, India settled in nicely and started pressing toward the end of the first quarter.
Nilakanta Sharma, Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, and Abhishek were at the center of most of the attacks from the right flank. India got three penalty corners in a row thanks to their relentless pressing, and Rohidas gave them the lead in the 12th minute of the second one.
When Harmanpreet’s drag-flick hit a Spanish defender, Rohidas got the ball, and his powerful hit beat the Spanish goalkeeper all the way. India received a second penalty corner a minute later, but Harmanpreet failed to score.
Abhishek beat a few Spanish defenders inside the circle just before the end of the first quarter, but his efforts were unsuccessful. Additionally, Nilakanta attempted a shot but missed.
The second quarter also went pretty much the same as the first, with most of the action taking place in the Indian half at first as Spain tried hard to get even.
However, Hardik made a fantastic run down the left channel four minutes into the second half and then crossed the ball onto the goal’s face. India scored their second goal when a defender was forced to deflect it in after it beat the Spanish goalkeeper.
Spain wasted their first penalty corner shortly after receiving it.
Although there was no goal in the third quarter, captain Harmanpreet wasted a penalty stroke in the 32nd minute, which resulted in a lot of drama. Following an India video referral, it was determined that the Spanish goalkeeper saved his effort.
In another Pool D match earlier in the day, England defeated nearby Wales 5-0.
