The PCB also stated that if India did not travel across the border for the tournament, Pakistan’s participation in the ODI World Cup would be jeopardized.
Thakur, on the other hand, has stated that all major teams, including Pakistan, will compete in the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in 2023.
All qualifying teams for the World Cup are invited (to compete on Indian soil). Pakistani teams have visited India numerous times to play. I believe that India is not in a position to be dictated to (by anyone), and that there is no reason for anyone to do so. When asked about the controversy sparked by Shah’s statement, Thakur told a small group of journalists, I expect all countries to come and compete.
The Asia Cup 2023 will take place in a neutral location. This is my opinion as President of the ACC. We [India] cannot go there, and they cannot come here. The Asia Cup has previously been played at a neutral venue, Shah said following the 91st BCCI annual general meeting in Mumbai, which was attended by new Board president Roger Binny.
He told reporters that there is a policy in place regarding playing with Pakistan, and that the BCCI will follow it. Rajeev Shukla, BCCI vice-president seated next to Shah, explained that the Board will need government permission to play Pakistan.
India last visited Pakistan for a bilateral series in 2005-06, led by current Team India coach Rahul Dravid. India did, however, travel to Pakistan in 2008 to compete in the Asia Cup.
