INDIA TO HOST OLYMPICS?

While sports like cricket and badminton are already well recognised in the country, sports like womenu2019s cricket, kabaddi and football are also being appreciated.Taking this sports-advancement to another level India is now seriously considering to put forward a bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, said Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. India has already hosted both the Asian Games and CommonWealth Games in previous years.If India is making news in every sector, from manufacturing to services, then why not in the field of sports? he said. The Government has expressed their support for the Indian Olympic Associationu2019s (IOA) bid for the 2036 Olympics considering the likelihood of Ahmedabad in Gujarat being the ‘host city’.Gujarat has several times expressed interest in hosting the Olympics, he said. They have the infrastructure. It’s also part of the state government’s manifesto to host the Olympics in Gujarat. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, which has state-of-the-art facilities, is the largest cricket stadium in the globe and can be thought of a perfect existing venue for the event.Among potential rivals for the Games are Indonesia and South Korea, as well as Qatar, which hosted this year’s FIFA World Cup.
