Sukhjeet Singh, a forward for India, said that while the five-Test away series against Australia had a lot of positives, there were also a few key areas that needed work.
The World Cup will take place in India from January 13 to 29, with 16 teams competing. The hosts are put in Gathering D close by Britain, Spain and Grains.
We have Spain, England, and Wales in our pool. We played against Spain and Britain in the Expert Association last year. At the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, we also played Wales. Thus, we will be glancing back at those exhibitions and choose the up-sides and negatives to set ourselves up as needs be, Sukhjeet said in a Hockey India explanation.
India has been training in Rourkela since December 27 and will begin their campaign against Spain on January 13.
We played a five-match Test series against Australia, said Sukhjeet, who will be participating in his first World Cup. The tour had a lot of positive aspects, but there were still a few areas where we thought we could do better. Therefore, in the training, we are working on those areas.
When asked about the team’s training sessions under Graham Reid, Sukhjeet offered only the statement that the team is concentrating on strengthening some areas where it has struggled during the series against Australia in November and December. India fell 1-4 in the closely fought rubber match.
Sukhjeet stated, I am delighted and thankful to Reid who gave me this opportunity to be a part of the squad, after seeing my performances over the past year. Reid gave him the chance to be a part of the team.
In the Pro League 2021-22 game against Spain in February of last year, Sukhjeet made his senior debut and scored. He has played in 16 games and scored four goals since then.
Additionally, the 26-year-old provided an insight into the team’s mood prior to the World Cup.
Everyone at the camp shares a genuine spirit of cooperation. We are all very excited to get started in our first game against Spain. Positive feelings and mutual support are evident among everyone. It’s exciting to see a real sense of unity here.
