The Indian Blind Cricket Team has officially withdrawn from the T20 Blind World Cup scheduled to be held in Pakistan from November 22 to December 3, 2024, after failing to receive clearance from the Indian government. The decision, announced by the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), reflects the ongoing geopolitical tensions between the two neighboring countries

The team had initially received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Sports Ministry, but the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) denied the necessary permissions to travel to Pakistan. This development has cast a shadow over the future of sporting exchanges between India and Pakistan, which have been fraught with challenges over the years

CABI expressed its disappointment over the decision but emphasized the importance of prioritizing national interests. “We play with passion, and we represent our country with immense pride. We have always looked forward to competing at the biggest stage, and it is disheartening to miss out on this opportunity,” said Durga Rao Tompaki, Captain of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team for the Blind. “However, we know that the next World Cup is just around the corner, and we remain committed to our training and preparation.”

The team had been preparing rigorously for the tournament, holding successful coaching camps that showcased promising new players. Despite the setback, CABI remains focused on nurturing talent and building a strong foundation for the team’s future. “We have had a successful coaching camp and have seen emerging talent that we believe can lead our team to greater heights. It’s time to nurture these talents and ensure that our team is ready when the next tournament comes,” added Tompaki

The withdrawal of the Indian Blind Cricket Team is part of a broader trend, as Indian teams across sports have often refrained from traveling to Pakistan due to diplomatic and security concerns. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be held in Pakistan, has also been a point of contention, with India yet to confirm its participation.

As the cricketing world grapples with the implications of this decision, the hope remains that future tournaments will see improved relations and smoother coordination between the two nations. For now, the focus is on supporting the players and ensuring that their hard work and dedication are recognized and appreciated.
