Hamas is Iran’s close partner. The attack on Tehran takes place less than two weeks after Israel bombed the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1, killing a senior General of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and several military advisors.
Iran also seized a cargo vessel connected to Israel, the crew of which included 17 Indian nationals, the day before. Tel Aviv has said that Iran’s strike has been “foiled,” citing the US and other allies’ assistance in intercepting hundreds of missiles and drones.

It further stated that an airbase sustained “minor damage” and that more than ten people, including a seven-year-old child, were injured as a result of the bombardment. The Iranian government had promised retaliation following the April 1 incident, with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei saying that Israel would be “punished” for it.
Iran said through its Permanent Representative to the UN on Sunday that its retaliation had “concluded” and cautioned Israel not to retaliate, having shown that it was capable of striking deep within Israeli territory. Aside from the US, a number of friends of Israel, such as the UK and France, have reiterated their dedication to defending Tel Aviv.

India, which enjoys cordial ties with both nations, has been pleading for moderation; its first priority must be the rescue of its citizens, especially the ship crew and the labourers who recently migrated, from the area that might soon expand into a larger conflict zone.
West Asia is in a dangerous situation as a result of what has happened since the October 7 attack, when Israel employed excessive force that resulted in thousands of civilian casualties and a humanitarian disaster in Gaza. Escalation may help the military industries of the US, China, and Europe, but right-thinking citizens there and around the world must make every effort to bring about peace in the region.
