India scored 101 out of 160 countries in the global hunger index, and soon after the ranking was announced, the government of India raised some legitimate questions about the index’s calculating process. We will not get into it, but we must consider whether it is a valid concern.Let me draw your attention to child malnutrition, which has a major influence on future generations. The most critical issue to address is stunting and wasting because, whether the GHI ranking is correct or not, India has severe difficulties with children’s health in our country.Let me define both phrases. The first is stunting. It is also the proportion of children under the age of five that are short for their age. It causes brain underdevelopment, poor learning, and a rise in nutrition illness.
Courtesy: Hindustan TimesNorthern India accounts for 30% of stunted children.40% in India’s central regionSouthern India accounts for 20%. On average, 30% of the overall kid population (under the age of 5) suffers from stunting, which is caused by chronic malnutrition. The second factor is wasting, which is the proportion of children under the age of five who are underweight for their height. India accounts for one-quarter of the worldwide market (in case of wasting). Wasting is caused by a severe food deficit, an unpleasant environment, or sickness, and it represents malnutrition. And, in order to address these issues, the government has not taken the necessary steps. Even though the government has proposed some answers, appropriate implementation is required to defeat such a sickness.Comment your thoughts below.
