The PCB expressed concern about Shah’s statement, writing: The PCB has noted with surprise and disappointment yesterday’s comments made by ACC President Mr Jay Shah regarding the relocation of next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. The comments were made without any discussion or consultation with the Asian Cricket Council Board or the Pakistan Cricket Board (event host), and without any consideration for their long-term consequences and implications.
Mr Shah’s statement about shifting the ACC Asia Cup was clearly made unilaterally after presiding over the ACC meeting at which Pakistan was awarded the ACC Asia Cup with overwhelming support and response from the ACC Board Members.
This is contrary to the philosophy and spirit for which the Asian Cricket Council was formed in September 1983 – a united Asian cricket body to safeguard the interests of its Members and organize, develop, and promote the game of cricket in Asia, the PCB stated in a letter circulated through social media.
India last visited Pakistan for a bilateral series in 2005-06, led by current Team India coach Rahul Dravid. India did, however, travel to Pakistan in 2008 to compete in the Asia Cup.
