During the CSK innings, the 32-year-old was injured after a nasty fall while fielding on the boundary. On Friday, he limped off the pitch in the 13th over. The extent of his injury is unknown, but based on what was seen on Friday night, it did not appear to be minor.
Williamson, making his Gujarat Titans debut, intercepted a ball aimed for a six off the bat of CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. He was able to palm the ball into play before it bounced off the boundary ropes. But he stumbled to the ground and clutched his right knee in pain.
He was taken off the field after receiving on-field treatment and did not return, with B Sai Sudharsan initially filling in as a substitute fielder and later taking Williamson’s place in the Titans’ playing XI under the Impact Player rule.
GT signed Williamson at his base price of Rs 2 crore during the IPL mini auction.
