The BCCI has warned the players ahead of the opening match to take the country’s water deficit seriously by taking brief showers. Yes, the water situation in Harare is dire, and the players have been made aware of this. They have been instructed to use as little water as possible and to take baths as quickly as possible.
Pool sessions have also been reduced to preserve water, according to a BCCI official. Inside Sport was told of the instruction handed to the players by a board representative. During their 2018 journey to South Africa, Team India had a similar problem. Many sections of Cape Town lacked running water. Many districts of Harare have been without flowing water for more than three days, with residents waiting for drinking water. In the midst of the crisis, the BCCI advising the Indian team to save water and take short showers to reduce water waste was imperative.
