In a major setback for the Indian cricket team, KL Rahul has ruled himself out of the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand and the subsequent five-match Test series against England. The 29-year-old opener has cited a recurring thigh injury as the reason for his withdrawal from the high-profile matches.
According to a statement issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rahul had been experiencing pain in his left thigh for some time, and after a series of medical assessments, it was decided that he needed to undergo surgery to address the issue.

The surgery is expected to take place soon, and Rahul will then undergo a rehabilitation process before he can return to the field. The BCCI has not provided a timeline for Rahul’s recovery, but it is expected that he will be out of action for at least a few months.
This is a significant blow for the Indian cricket team, as Rahul had been in good form in recent Test matches. He scored a century in the second Test against England earlier this year and had also performed well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) before it was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rahul’s absence means that the Indian team will need to find a replacement opener for the WTC final, which is set to take place from June 18 to June 22 in Southampton, England. The team management will be hoping that the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill can step up in Rahul’s absence and help India secure a historic victory in the inaugural WTC final.
