India carried out a number of clandestine operations to monitor the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) during this 15-month period. The Western and Central Army Commands’ investitures revealed these battles and actions, which had gone unrecorded until the citations for heroism awards were read aloud.

Any provocation must be met by New Delhi with caution but firmness. The fact that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed his Chinese colleague that “other relations should not move on normally unless a solution is found at the border” is commendable. Beijing bears the responsibility of implementing genuine measures to settle the LAC conflict and clear the path for the restoration of bilateral relations.
