These cover 10 border states and union territories’ roads, bridges, tunnels, and airports. At a cost of Rs 2,897 crore, 103 BRO infrastructure projects were dedicated to the country last year.

    The minister will also lay the cornerstone for an airstrip that will be built by the BRO in eastern Ladakh’s strategically significant Nyoma region at a projected cost of Rs 218 crore. The airfield is anticipated to improve air infrastructure in Ladakh, a flashpoint for conflicts between India and China, and increase the battle-readiness of the Indian Air Force along the northern frontier. 
    It is crucial to make sure that such significant initiatives are finished on schedule. The interests of national security may be harmed by any delay. The key Sela tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, which would allow for quicker troop and weapon deployment to forward regions in the Tawang sector, has already missed a number of dates, which is concerning.

    Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, the head of the BRO, acknowledged that India lags China in developing border infrastructure but stated that the country is catching up quickly because of the prompt implementation of important projects to support military operations. 
    In the next three to four years, India will, in his opinion, almost catch up to China. However, assuming Beijing will ease off on its pace in the ensuing years would be naive. Even though the two sides are expected to continue their military and diplomatic negotiations, India needs to make every effort to increase its presence along the LAC.
