A turning point in India-France relations has been reached with President Emmanuel Macron’s acceptance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s last-minute invitation, following US President Joe Biden’s announcement of his unavailability. 

    In July, Prime Minister Modi was the honored guest at Paris’s Bastille Day Parade. For the sixth time, a head of state from France will be the main attraction at the R-Day festivities. In 1998, India and France upgraded their diplomatic ties to a “strategic partnership.” It celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.The affirmation from President Macron reaffirms France’s position as a dependable ally in all weather.

    The Defence Acquisition Council authorized the purchase of 26 Rafales for the Navy and three Scorpene submarines—which were developed in France and Spain—in July, after the Indian Air Force’s acquisition of Rafale planes. With regard to co-production, co-development, and co-design of military gear, New Delhi is looking to expand its relationship with France.

    One of India’s closest European allies now is France. The desire for a mutually advantageous convergence on both sides has been a notable aspect. The leaders will have the chance to discuss the status of the strategic partnership’s major pillars—space, climate change, security, civil nuclear technology, and resilient supply chains—during their bilateral discussions.
