During his visit, Mandaviya met with weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, javelin thrower Annu Rani, and shot putter Abha Khatua, who are set to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He also interacted with other athletes enrolled in the National Centre of Excellence here and prominent coaches. The athletes praised the support they received in their preparation for the upcoming Olympics. Mirabai highlighted the assistance from world-renowned sports scientist Dr. Aaron Horschig, while Annu Rani appreciated her extended training period at European bases.

Mandaviya emphasized the government’s commitment to talent identification and nurturing at the grassroots level. He reviewed NSNIS facilities, including sports science resources and the ongoing infrastructure project. The minister expressed delight at being at the hallowed NIS, which continues to be a critical hub for producing quality coaches and providing excellent training facilities for athletes.
In addition to his NSNIS visit, Mandaviya later unveiled the Athletics Federation of India’s new logo at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula’s Tau Devi Lal Stadium.
