Messi’s tap-in off a Kylian Mbappe cross from the left, which doubled PSG’s lead in the first half, was his 28th goal for PSG, in addition to 672 for FC Barcelona. These came in 840 appearances, for a goal every 1.2 games.
On the night, the left-footed maestro also had two assists, both of which were scored by his attacking partner up front. PSG took the lead in the 25th minute, when Messi sped past the midfield and fed a darting in Mbappe with a through ball that found the far post on the left.
With a 2-0 lead going into the second half, PSG increased their lead with a Mbappe volley off a nicely weighted dinked pass from Messi on the left. It was also a memorable night for the sensational 24-year-old Mbappe, who scored his 200th goal for PSG in all competitions.
With the goal, he equaled Edinson Cavani’s all-time club goal scoring record.
The Parisians had lost 2-1 to Marseille in the Coupe de France earlier this month, but the win on Sunday gave them an eight-point lead over their traditional rivals at the top of the French Ligue 1 table.
