The election panel has urged the BJP to provide advice to all party candidates and campaigners to make sure that similar mistakes do not happen again during the campaign season, rather than limiting its order to only one competitor.
The ECI said that Gangopadhyay had broken the Model Code of Conduct, characterising his remarks as a “low-level personal attack.” The Opposition’s claim that the poll panel consistently favours the ruling party at the Center will be lessened by the ECI’s excellent censure.

After leaving his position as a judge in March, Gangopadhyay joined the BJP, although his crude criticism of the chief minister hasn’t exactly won him any accolades. Someone with his level of experience shouldn’t have to go to such lengths. Political leaders have been correctly reminded by the ECI to refrain from bringing up “any aspects of private life not connected with the public activities of the leaders or workers” while criticising rival parties.
Justice Chitta Ranjan Dash, a different Calcutta High Court judge, has stirred some controversy by expressing gratitude to the RSS during his parting speech. He declared that he was prepared to return to the organisation because he owed it a lot.

Justice Dash later claimed that he would have been hypocritical to have avoided bringing up his lengthy affiliation with the right-wing organisation. Since the judiciary’s independence is essential to the rule of law and constitutional standards, both former judges should be held accountable for damaging the institution’s reputation. The independence of the ECI is equally important; it has done a good job of cautioning the BJP and the Congress against running caste, religious, and communal campaigns.
