He visited the state more than two years after the January 2022 Ferozepur incident, in which protesters’ road blockade forced him to retreat without speaking at a rally before the Punjab Assembly elections.

The demonstrators were irritated by the authorities’ seeming disinterest and indifference. The Modi administration didn’t give in and decided to remove the legislation until November 2021. Discussions over the MSP problem have not produced a clear resolution, despite the fact that BJP candidates are encountering strong resistance in numerous communities due to allegations of the saffron party forsaking farmers. In the face of such adamant opposition, Prime Minister Modi decided to play the Sikh card in Punjab and celebrated the Kartarpur Sahib corridor’s opening in 2019.

In addition, he praised his government for revisiting case files pertaining to the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. His efforts to reach out to Sikhs, however, would not go over well with the angry farmers, who are not inclined to forgive the BJP for the abuse and demonization they have endured, particularly during the 2020–21 uproar.
