Another reason why fans are calling the BCCI’s decision a massive blunder is that Shami has not played a T20I in nearly a year. He received his final T20 cap during last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, where India was eliminated in the group stage.
Those who are opposed to Shami’s inclusion believe that the speedster is extremely fortunate to have made the squad because there have been reports that the current team management will not consider him for the T20I team in the future.
Shami was completely dropped by the management, who preferred Avesh Khan over him, and he hasn’t played a single T20I since last year, when the focus was on the event in Australia.
The selectors may not have wanted to repeat last year’s mistake of including too many inexperienced players in the squad based on their IPL form.
None of them were able to live up to their full potential, which proved disastrous for the Man in Blue.
Shami is an excellent bowler with a strong record in Australia, albeit in different formats. Let’s hope he can repeat his ODI World Cup magic and lead India deep into the tournament.
