36 donkeys were saved during the raids by the Prakasam police, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and others.
Following a complaint from PETA, India and other regional organisations in Vijayawada, the police and all other animal cruelty organisations conducted coordinated raids, according to Ongole Taluk Circle Inspector (CI) V Srinivasa Rao.
The defendants have been charged under many IPC provisions, the PCA Act of 1960, and the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006. He stated that they had saved 36 donkeys, 26 of which were taken from a vehicle that had been stopped on Sunday by local volunteers and the police. Before receiving long-term therapy, the rescued donkeys were relocated to safety. More than 500 kg of donkey meat and discarded body parts, such as heads, legs, and flesh, were also seized by the joint action teams at a number of locations, including pillar no. 49 under the Ongole-Vijayawada flyover bridge, Mangamuru Road, Vaddivari Kunta area, and under the Ongole-Koppolu flyover bridge area.Gopal Surabathula of the Animal Rescue Organization (PETA-ARO) and Vijay Kishore Palika of the East Godavari-based SPCA both participated in the operation. An FIR has been filed, and an inquiry is currently underway. Donkey slaughter is illegal and has been more prevalent recently; just before a week had passed, Bapatla police, PETA, and other local organisations managed to save 16 donkeys and confiscate almost 100 kg of donkey flesh. In addition, the Bapatla police detained 11 individuals in Chirala in connection with the unlawful trafficking in donkey meat.In India, the number of donkeys has decreased by 61% over the past seven years, according to a new study. In this regard, we applaud the Prakasam police under the leadership of SP Malika Garg for their actions, which have contributed to conveying a clear message that cruelty to donkeys would not be condoned, according to Meet Ashar, manager of cruelty response projects for PETA India.Comment down below.
