Mukund won the ITF Future event in Portugal in September, his first title in five years, and he also finished second at an ITF 15 event in Egypt earlier this month.
This is India’s tournament, and we are committed to giving Indian players a platform and assisting them in obtaining much-needed opportunities. Mukund Sasikumar, the top-ranked Indian at the moment, has been given a wildcard.
I hope he takes advantage of this opportunity and puts on some impressive performances in front of his home fans, said Prashant Sutar, Tournament Director of the Tata Open Maharashtra, as well as the Chairman of the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association.
Playing in major tournaments, such as the Tata Open Maharashtra, boosts players’ confidence, especially when competing against some of the world’s best athletes. Mukund Sasikumar is a talented player from India, and this tournament has always encouraged Indian participation.

As we have a competitive field this year with some big names, it will be a great opportunity for him to showcase his game and gain valuable experience, said Sunder Iyer, Joint Secretary of All India Tennis Association and Secretary of Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association.
Mukund will compete in his second main draw appearance at the Tata Open Maharashtra, following his debut in the third edition. Last year, the World No. 340 competed in the qualifiers. Yuki Bhambri will compete in the preliminary round.
