After smashing a brilliant T20I century against Bangladesh in Hyderabad, Sanju Samson has set his sights on playing Test cricket for India. The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, who took just 40 balls to reach his maiden T20I century, expressed his strong desire to be part of the Indian Test team.

    In an interaction with the media, Samson shared his ambition to play Test cricket for India. “I believe I have the skill set to succeed in red-ball cricket and I just don’t want to restrict myself to white-ball cricket. My desire is to play Test cricket for India. Before the Duleep Trophy, the leadership group had told me they were considering me for red-ball cricket and asked me to take it seriously and play more Ranji Trophy matches.”

    Samson’s journey to this point has been marked by consistent performances in domestic cricket. He has scored 3,819 runs in 64 first-class matches at an average of 38.96, including 11 centuries. His recent century in the Duleep Trophy against some of the best bowlers in the country has given him a lot of confidence

    The Kerala-born player has also credited his improved preparation to training sessions with Rahul Dravid and Zubin Bharucha at the Rajasthan Royals Academy. “My preparation was good this time around. After the series against Sri Lanka, I trained at the RR Academy with Rahul Dravid sir and Zubin Bharucha and worked on my game. The century in the Duleep Trophy has given me a lot of confidence as it came against some of the best bowlers in the country.”
