The government has emphasised time and again that the primary goals of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam statutes will be upholding rights and delivering justice, possibly in opposition to the harsh colonial laws that placed a greater focus on punishment.
