When Djokovic lavishly lauded Alcaraz after the match, describing him as a complete player with a blend of the greatest traits of the sport’s Big Three\u2014Rafael Nadal, Djokovic, and Roger Federeru2014the Spaniard’s Grand Slam trophy was made even larger.
A feat of equal beauty was that of the Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova, who defeated Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur to become the first unseeded Wimbledon women’s singles champion in the professional era.
The 24-year-old Vondrousova’s victory was all the more sweet because not only did she come out stronger despite having wrist surgery last year, but she also proved her sponsor Nike, which had underestimated her grit and dropped her earlier, wrong. Jabeur’s dream of becoming the first African to win the title, like in 2022, was crushed, but it made the victory all the more sweet.

The two young players proved they were in it for the long haul by remaining unaffected in the face of fierce competition and pulling off astonishing and historic triumphs, with Alcaraz decisively demonstrating that he commanded the grass court as much as the clay surface. The next generation of tennis stars will face off against Djokovic and Nadal, who have shown that the 30s are the new 20s, in thrilling matches that tennis fans can look forward to.
