Olivia Wilde was compelled to delete sex sequences from the trailer for Don’t Worry, Darling, starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh.

According to Variety, if the filmmaker had her way, there would have been even more suggestive sequences in the steamy teaser. According to the Associated Press, the MPA ratings board came down hard on the first trailer edit and compelled her to eliminate further portions judged too risquu00e9. When challenged about adding a sex act in the trailer, Wilde remarked, There’s a lot that had to be pulled out of the movie. At the last second, the MPA came down hard on me and the trailer, and I had to delete certain photos, which saddened me since I believed they pushed it up a level. However, we still live in a very puritanical culture.
I do think the absence of sexiness in American movies is kind of new, she continued. Then there’s feminine pleasure, which is something we don’t see very frequently unless you’re talking about gay movies. In her Variety cover story, Wilde stated, Female pleasure, the finest forms of it that you see nowadays, are in gay cinema.
Why are we more at ease with female pleasure when there are two ladies on film? The focus on males as the beneficiaries of pleasure is practically omnipresent in hetero sex scenes in movies, she added. In an AP interview, Wilde stated that people are already furious with me about this, referring to the film’s oral sex scene. I believe it is a testimony to the film. We aim to make people think. Previously, the film’s lead actress, Pugh, discussed the oral scene and voiced her dissatisfaction with the response to the trailer.
