In a recent development in Indian cricket, Omkar Salvi has been appointed as the new head coach for the Mumbai team in the upcoming season of the Ranji Trophy. Salvi, who is a former Mumbai and India A pacer, will be taking over from Amit Pagnis, who stepped down as head coach earlier this year.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) made the announcement on Thursday, stating that Salvi’s appointment was based on his impressive track record as a player and a coach. In his playing career, Salvi represented Mumbai in 73 first-class matches and picked up 212 wickets. He also played for India A and was a part of the team that toured Zimbabwe in 2007.

After retiring from cricket in 2017, Salvi took up coaching and has since been associated with the Mumbai Under-23 team as a bowling coach. He was also a part of the coaching staff for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two seasons.
Speaking about his appointment, Salvi said, It’s an honor to be appointed as the head coach of the Mumbai team for the Ranji Trophy. Mumbai has a rich cricketing history and I am looking forward to contributing to the team’s success. We have a good mix of experienced and young players and I am confident that we can put up a strong performance this season.
The Mumbai team has a formidable record in the Ranji Trophy, having won the tournament a record 41 times. They will be looking to add to their tally in the upcoming season and with the appointment of Salvi as head coach, the team is expected to be well-prepared and raring to go. The Ranji Trophy is scheduled to begin in November this year, and fans of Mumbai cricket will be eagerly waiting to see their team in action.
