He  also pointed out that efforts have been made to push in highly trained foreign terrorists as there is no local recruitment.

    According to the army, at least 20-25 terrorists are active in the border areas of Rajouri and Poonch. The fresh decision to eradicate terrorism from the Pir Panjal region was taken during a 31-hour meeting in Rajouri last week. 
    A senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and his associates were shot dead while the army suffered five casualties, including two captains. Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton  famously warned Islamabad that you can’t keep snakes in your backyard and expect them  to bite your neighbours. 
    Terrorist attacks have increased in Pakistan since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. The forced exodus of Afghan refugees continues. Despite the country’s plight, Pakistan’s all-powerful military resorting to direct intervention by sending  retired personnel across the border is a warning to India.

    The challenges are growing and we cannot afford to lose our momentum. A critical lesson of the 26/11 attacks was  the complete lack of preparedness. As the media reports, an ecosystem of indifference is alarmingly prevalent. Of the 46 boats procured to monitor the Mumbai coast, only eight are operational. 
    A Hamas attack on Israel showed the danger of showing even a hint of complacency or feelings of invulnerability. The bigger lesson was not to be too dependent on global support. Pakistan-sponsored terrorism is not a problem that can be outsourced. India must use all its resources to resolve this.
