The National Statistical Office published the information in the publication Women and Men in India 2022. The gender gap is greatest in some states where male wages are among the highest in India. There are no glaring trends in the data.

    The paper claims that between 2011u201312 and 2022, the rural wage disparity widened by more than 10% in the states of West Bengal, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. These three phases evolve in a variety of ways, ranging from very quickly to somewhat slowly. The statistics may reflect the entrenched patriarchal stereotype that women are less productive and more inclined to skip work or be absent.
    The pay disparity has long-term effects on a country’s economic development in addition to being unethical in terms of the principles of equal pay for equal labour. Women actually earn less over the course of their lifetimes than men do. Despite working jobs paying equivalent wages, women frequently end up in poverty. Being poor disempowers you.

    As a result, a woman’s ability to effectively influence decisions that have an impact on her own life, such as those involving her education, health, personal costs, and childcare, is likely to be limited. This fosters low self-esteem and self-worth and strengthens gender inequity ideas. Discrimination that is already present might also cause psychological discomfort.
    Women may not stay employed by one company for very long if they have alternative job opportunities available. A self-fulfilling prophecy of lower productivity for women is thus created. This is brought on by the fact that they are either always searching for better paying employment or marriage partners who can help them access a higher family income. If people in power have enough political will, eliminating the wage gap and other types of discrimination is not too difficult.
