For tokenized digital recreations of significant Swedish abstract artist Hilma AF Klint’s works, GODA began an auction on Monday. In collaboration with Stolpe Publishing, the online gallery Acute Art, and the Hilma AF Klint Foundation, GODA developed the Paintings for the Temple Ethereum NFTs.
Ultimately, 193 digital NFT recreations of af Klint’s artwork were produced in two identical sets, with one set being given to the Foundation as a non-commercial gift. This week, 163 NFTs from the other set were offered for auction, and the GODA team also kept 30 of the NFTs. The official catalog raisonnu00e9, or complete collection of the late artist’s work, was also released at the same time as the NFTs.

Erisman had earlier in the month expressed his disapproval of the NFT transaction. She viewed these paintings as being a cohesive whole. They were intended to remain together, Ersman told the newspaper. They’re not intended to be hung on a person’s wall in the living room. With the NFT, they are now commercializing it and distorting Hilma af Klint’s message by leveraging her name and reputation. In this scenario, a digital recreation of the original physical artwork, an NFT is a blockchain token that denotes ownership in the object. Along with tangible commodities and event ticketing, NFTs are also utilized for things like profile photographs, collectibles, and video game stuff. The Hilma af Klint Foundation CEO Jessica Hu00f6glund told Hyperallergic that the organization wasn’t in [a] position to either approve or condemn such reproductions because the artwork itself is in the public domain. She said that the Foundation does collaborate with Stolpe on the catalog raisonnu00e9, and that agreement covers NFTs.
