The spotlight is once again on Rakshit Shetty, the versatile actor, director, and producer known for his impactful roles in Kannada cinema. However, this time, it’s not for his on-screen charisma but for a legal tussle that has left tongues wagging in the entertainment industry.
Rakshit Shetty finds himself in hot water over alleged copyright violations related to his latest film, Bachelor Party. Produced under his banner, Paramvah Studios, the movie hit theaters on January 26, 2024. But behind the glitz and glamour of the silver screen lies a dispute that has now escalated to legal proportions.
The Bengaluru Police have registered an FIR against Rakshit Shetty and Paramvah Studios based on accusations by Naveen Kumar, a partner at MRT Music. What’s the bone of contention? The unauthorized use of songs from two other films—Nyaya Ellide and Gaalimaathu—in Bachelor Party. According to India Today, Rakshit had discussions with MRT Music about acquiring rights to these songs earlier this year, but negotiations hit a dead end. Despite the lack of formal permission, the songs found their way into the film.
This isn’t Rakshit Shetty’s first dance with copyright infringement. Back in 2016, he faced a similar situation when his blockbuster film Kirik Party hit the screens. Lahari Velu, director of Lahari Music, accused Rakshit of violating copyrights. The legal battle stretched over four years, leaving both parties entangled in legal complexities. Now, with Bachelor Party, history seems to be repeating itself.
Bachelor Party, directed by Abhijit Mahesh, features Diganth Manchale in the lead role. Supported by a talented cast including Achyuth Kumar, Siri Ravikumar, Yogesh, and Balaji Manohar, the film promised entertainment and drama. Initially, Rishab Shetty was part of the project, but due to prior commitments, he stepped away. Notably, YouTuber and actress Achara Kirk, along with former Bigg Boss Kannada winner Shine Shetty and JP Thumminad, also joined the ensemble.
Aravind Kashyap, the cinematographer renowned for his work on films like 777 Charlie, Kantara, and Hostel Hudugaru Bekagiddare, lent his visual magic to Bachelor Party. The film’s editing credit goes to Abhishek M., ensuring that every frame was finely tuned.
