Ranbir Kapoor is currently riding high thanks to the success of his most recent film, Brahmastra Part One: Shiva. The ‘Astraverse’ film, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is the first in a trilogy inspired by mythology and fantasy, and is about the world of ‘Astras’ (celestial weapons). While this is the first attempt in Indian cinema to create a superhero universe, Ranbir was once approached about another popular franchise: Star Wars. However, the actor declined because he was afraid of auditioning. Yes, you read that correctly.
Ranbir Kapoor turned down Star Wars.
Ranbir revealed in a 2016 interview with Rajeev Masand that he was offered the role of the second lead in Star Wars. He, however, declined the offer. I was asked to audition for the second lead in Star Wars a couple of years ago, he explained. I’m terrified of auditioning. It’s more a fear of not having enough faith in my abilities.
Ranbir also stated that while the offer did not pique his interest, he would rather create his own Star Wars with Ayan Mukerji. Let us create our own Star Wars. Let us not chase what is already there. That’s fantastic, but I have an opportunity here, and I don’t believe Ayan is less talented than JJ Abrams or George Lucas. Let me collaborate with him to create our own Star Wars, the actor said. Years later, Ranbir and Ayan have their own superhero film.
