Despite spending crores in the auction, the franchise has struggled in recent IPL seasons, failing to qualify for the playoffs in 2021 and 2022. Ishan Kishan was purchased by Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 season, but he failed to live up to the price tag.
Then, ahead of this year’s IPL, they splashed out on Australia all-rounder Cameron Green, who also failed to impress in his debut in the cash-rich league. Fans took to social media to mock the Mumbai Indians for launching a chair, with some even claiming that they are attempting to recoup their losses from the auction by demanding outrageous prices for a chair.
The Rohit Sharma-led team began its IPL 2023 campaign with a loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). All three of their top-order batters failed, and it was Tilak Varma, a 20-year-old youngster, who got them to a respectable total.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, on the other hand, made quick work of MI’s total and hammered them in Bengaluru.
