Following India’s crushing 10-wicket defeat to Australia in the second Test in Adelaide, former India cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Kirti Azad has come out in support of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit, who joined the team after missing the first Test due to the birth of his first child, struggled with the bat, scoring only 3 and 6 across two innings2.

Azad criticized the widespread criticism directed at Rohit, stating, “It’s very strange in our country; if somebody doesn’t do well, he should be dropped. If somebody loses, then his captaincy should go. The problem is 140 crore people, because they see it on television where everybody is an expert3.” Azad emphasized that such undue pressure is part of the territory when playing for India.

Azad also commented on the team’s overall performance, describing the second Test as more of a surrender by India than a victory by Australia. He added, “They are known for their comebacks. So, it’s a tough opponent, and we have to fight and see to it that we put them behind in Gabba3.”
Despite the criticism, Azad remains confident in Rohit’s leadership and believes that India can bounce back in the third Test at the Gabba. He also mentioned that the absence of Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from an injury, has been a significant factor in the team’s performance3.
As India gears up for the decisive third Test, all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma to see if he can lead his team to victory and silence his critics. With the support of cricketing legends like Kirti Azad, Rohit is poised to make a strong comeback and keep India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final hopes alive.
