In a dramatic turn of events during the first Test between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma provided a significant update on Rishabh Pant’s injury. Pant, who was struck on the knee while keeping wickets on Day 2 of the match, was seen limping off the field and did not return for the rest of the day’s play

Rohit Sharma revealed that Pant had swelling on the same knee that underwent surgery earlier in 2023 following a horrific car accident. “Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his knee cap, the same leg on which he has got a surgery done. So he has got a bit of swelling on it. It’s the same knee on which he got the surgery, and you know the muscles are quite tender at this point in time, so it’s a precautionary measure. We don’t want to take any risks with his health,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference

The Indian team management is closely monitoring Pant’s condition, and he is currently undergoing further assessments to determine the extent of the injury. Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of Pant’s recovery, stating, “Rishabh is a key player for us, and we need him to be at his best. We are doing everything we can to ensure he gets the best possible treatment and recovers quickly.”

Pant’s injury has raised concerns among fans and cricket enthusiasts, given his crucial role in the team as a wicketkeeper-batter. His absence from the field has left a significant gap in the Indian lineup, and the team will need to regroup and strategize to compensate for his loss.

Rohit Sharma also expressed his confidence in the rest of the team, saying, “We have a strong squad, and everyone will need to step up and take responsibility. We are in this together, and we will give our best to win this match and the series.”

As the first Test continues, all eyes will be on Pant’s recovery and the team’s performance. The match is finely poised, with New Zealand currently leading by 134 runs after posting 180 for 3 in their first innings in response to India’s 46 all out. The Indian team will need to put up a strong performance in their second innings to stay in the contest.

Rohit Sharma’s update on Pant’s injury has provided some clarity on the situation, but the focus now shifts to the team’s ability to overcome this setback and deliver a competitive total. The resilience and determination of the Indian team will be tested in the coming days, and fans are hopeful that they can turn things around and put up a fight.
