In a recent development, the Mumbai Police have registered a case against a local businessman for allegedly using Sachin Tendulkar’s name for endorsement without his permission. The case was registered after the legendary cricketer filed a complaint with the police, stating that his name and image were being used without his consent.According to reports, the businessman, who owns a footwear store, had allegedly put up hoardings across the city featuring Sachin Tendulkar’s image and name to promote his products. The hoardings had reportedly been put up without seeking any permission or consent from the former cricketer.
In his complaint, Sachin Tendulkar has stated that the use of his name and image without his permission is a violation of his right to privacy and publicity. He has also accused the businessman of causing him mental agony and tarnishing his reputation.
The Mumbai Police have registered a case against the businessman under sections 43(a), 63, and 66 of the Information Technology Act, as well as under sections 419, 420, and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. The police have also seized the hoardings and are investigating the matter further.
This is not the first time that Sachin Tendulkar’s name and image have been misused for endorsements without his permission. The cricketer has been very vocal about such incidents in the past and has urged his fans and followers to be cautious of such fraudulent activities.
The incident once again highlights the need for stricter laws and regulations to prevent the unauthorized use of celebrities’ names and images for endorsements. It also underscores the importance of respecting an individual’s right to privacy and publicity.
