Indian badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have regained their career-best world No. 5 ranking in the latest BWF (Badminton World Federation) men’s doubles rankings. The achievement comes after the duo’s recent win at the Badminton Asia Championships in Wuhan, China.
The Indian pair defeated the Indonesian duo of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-18, 21-19 in the final to clinch the title. The win also saw Satwik-Chirag move up one place in the rankings, overtaking the South Korean pair of Choi Sol-gyu and Seo Seung-jae
Satwik-Chirag had previously achieved the world No. 5 ranking in 2019, but had dropped down the rankings due to a lack of consistent performances. However, the duo has been in good form in recent months, having reached the semi-finals of the All England Championships earlier this year.
Speaking about their recent success, Satwik said, It’s a great feeling to be back at our career-best ranking. We have been working hard and it’s good to see the results. We will continue to focus on our game and aim to perform well in future tournaments as well.
Chirag also expressed his happiness at the achievement, stating, It’s always great to see our hard work pay off. We are looking forward to the upcoming tournaments and hope to continue our good form.
The Indian duo will now shift their focus to the upcoming Sudirman Cup, which is set to take place in Vantaa, Finland from September 26 to October 3. The Sudirman Cup is a biennial international team badminton championship and is considered to be one of the biggest events in the sport.
Satwik-Chirag will be hoping to continue their good form and help the Indian team to a successful campaign at the tournament. The Indian team has been drawn in Group A alongside China, Thailand and Finland.
The recent success of Satwik-Chirag has once again put Indian badminton on the map and has given fans hope for the future. With more tournaments set to take place in the coming months, Indian badminton fans will be eagerly watching to see how the duo performs on the world stage.
